Goodbye, sweet pnut

December 16th, 2006

I had to say goodbye to Sallypnut tonight.

She’s been fighting cancer for the last two months and it finally got the best of her. She didn’t suffer, and the end was very peaceful, but she was family and my heart is aching.

If you have an indoor cat, please read up on VAS (vaccine associated sarcoma) and discuss the risks and benefits of vaccines with your vet.

  1. Ohhh nooooooo….. I’m so sorry. I’m glad she had a peaceful farewell, but I’m so sorry.

  2. Oh Sara, I am SO SORRY. As a women in her 30s without children, I understand how one’s cats are really one’s children. I can’t even imagine. I’m really feeling for you. Call if you want to talk to someone who doesn’t think extreme attachment to felines is strange. That’s real grief.

  3. Sara, I’m so sorry. Recently, we lost our beloved Winnie after 18 years. It’s been over two months, yet this morning I woke up thinking about her and got teary-eyed again. Don’t hesitate to grieve for her. Love is love. I’ll be thinking about you.

  4. Hey Sara, I’m so sorry to hear about Sally. I had to have my cat put to sleep last spring because of severe diabetes and know what you’re going through. Know that a lot of people are sending you their love and that Sally was a happy and very loved cat.

  5. I have no words to say here. You bring such joy into people’s lives with “How Much Do We Love” and, I’m certain, in the “real world” with all of your friends. Sally Peanut was very special to you and adorable to boot - who could forget those hysterical photos of her sleeping? You have your memories and a new star in the heavens looking down on you, but I wish you all the best during this time. My deepest sympathies.

  6. Sara,
I am deeply sorry to read about your cat. As someone who has lost pets dear to them I understand. Take Care
    Bjorn

  7. So sorry again, Sara. Through your posts I felt like I knew Sallypnut and while I’m sad she’s gone I’m thankful for the joy she brought you.

  8. I’m so sorry Sara. I lost my 15-year old Gabby to lymphoma over 3 years ago, although I still have her sister Samantha, now over 19. I still think about it and wonder what I could have done differently…and still get a little teary when think about it too much. My cats are completely dependent on me, and that makes them as close to children as I’m going to get :)

Re: vaccinations: When my indoor cats became seniors and contracted chronic kidney disease I stopped vaccinating them. My vet had no problem with that. They’ve been indoors-only all their lives.

Again, I know what you’re going through, and I’m really sorry.

  9. I am so sorry, Sara, to hear about Sallypnut. Words escape me , but my thoughts and prayers are with you both.

  10. Aww Sara i know how hard it is to lose a pet. Through the years they become members of your family!! If you’re anything like me, you have more photos of your pets than anything else (= you should collect them all and make a scrapbook or a collage of all your favorite Sally Peanut photos. Hang in there, you can get through it! (=

    >^..^

  11. Sara, I’m very sorry for your loss. Sallypnut sounded like a very special feline friend. It sounds as if you gave her a wonderful life. No matter what, its always hard to say goodbye. Sending peaceful thoughts your way, Cathy
